University of Haifa- Oranim, Israel: Postdoctoral position in insect physiology
A 24-month (with possible extension) funded postdoctoral position is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Eran Gefen, Department of Biology, University of Haifa- Oranim, Israel (www.gefenlab.com). The position is part of a collaborative project with the laboratory of Prof. Bing Chen, The Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The overall goal of the study is to understand the genetic basis for insect adaptation to hypoxic conditions, using migratory locusts (Locusta migratoria) as a model. The postdoc will study the performance of locusts from high-altitude and lowland populations at rest and during activity under various oxic levels. Additionally, we will manipulate expression levels of candidate genes associated with variation in respiratory-related traits. The postdoc will be involved in laboratory experiments, maintenance of laboratory reared locust stocks and potentially field collections in China.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to highly motivated individuals interested in insect ecophysiology and with previous experience in respirometry. The position start date is negotiable, preferably before March 2017. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and e-mail addresses of three (3) references to firstname.lastname@example.org.
